Traffic Investigation & Control
On 1st March 1997, the Traffic Investigation Unit, which was formally under
the Criminal Investigation Department, and the Traffic & Patrol Branch of the
Operation Department, were combined and formed into a department known as Traffic
Investigation and Control Department. The department is headed by a Superintendent,
which purely deals with matters relating to traffic.
The department is comprised of 3 units, namely:
- Administration
- Investigation
- Operation
The Operation Unit is responsible for the following tasks:
- Royal escorts motorcycles,
- Traffic control at appropriate places, junctions, malfunction traffic lights
and school areas in order to ease traffic congestion,
- Round the clock highway patrol and visits to the residencies of foreign ambassadors
/ high commissions,
- Operating 'speed trap' etc.
With its recent existence, the department has set up another unit, known as Traffic
Accident Research Unit.
All serious and fatal accidents throughout the state will be compiled. The unit
is to analyse source or cause of the accidents, and also responsible for inspection
of the vehicles involved scene / road with the Public Works Department and Land Transport,
and to make necessary recommendation with an effort to minimise such cases.
Presently the unit has 6 personnels headed by a Senior Inspector and was fully
operational in August 1997.
